BIO

Carlo Boccadoro graduated in Piano and Percussion Instruments at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan. At the same institute he studied composition with various teachers, including Paolo Arata, Bruno Cerchio, Ivan Fedele and Marco Tutino. He also attended the Jazz Improvisation Technique course held by Giorgio Gaslini.

His music is programmed by important Italian and foreign institutions, such as: Teatro alla Scala, Venice Biennale, Bang On A Can Marathon (New York), Monday Evening Concerts (Los Angeles), Leipzig Gewandhaus, Lucerne Festival, Concertgebouw, National Concert Hall Dublin, Royal Academy of Glasgow, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, RAI National Symphony Orchestra, Pomeriggi Musicali, Arena di Verona, Festival MITO, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Massimo di Palermo and many others.

He has a large catalog that includes chamber works, orchestral pieces, for ensembles, chamber compositions and much music for prose theatre. He is a multifaceted artist who over the years has collaborated with artists from very different worlds including Riccardo Chailly, Beatrice Rana, Omer Meir Wellber, Gianandrea Noseda, Franco Battiato, Luca Ronconi, Enrico Dindo, Antonio Ballista, Eugenio Finardi, Mario Brunello, Roberto Prosseda, Claudio Bisio, Moni Ovadia, Andrea Lucchesini and many more.

In 2001 he was selected by Rai to participate in the UNESCO International Composers’ Forum in Paris.

In 2004 Luciano Berio commissioned him, for the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the children’s opera La Nave a Tre Piani that he conducted in 2005 at the Rome Auditorium and subsequently revived by the Teatro Regio in Turin.

Parallel to his activity as a composer, he began his career as an orchestra conductor, dedicating himself to both the symphonic and lyrical repertoire. He conducted the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pomeriggi Musicali, the Orchestra Sinfonica of Milan, the Orchestra of Tuscany, the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Turin , the Arena di Verona Foundation Orchestra, I Solisti Aquilani and others.

His writing activity is also intense. His last book entitled Battiato. Cafè Table Musik published in 2022 by La Nave di Teseo, has attracted much interest from critics and the public.

Together with Filippo Del Corno and Angelo Miotto, he is co-founder of Sentieri Selvaggi, a cultural project started in 1997 and dedicated to the dissemination of contemporary music and which currently includes an ensemble and a festival.

His compositions are published by Casa Musicale Sonzogno, RaiCom and Casa Ricordi.

Since October 2017 he has been Artistic Director of the concert season of the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa.

He collaborates with Radio3 with radio programs of a musical nature.

His compositions have been recorded on record labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, EMI Classics, Sony Classical, Ricordi, Warner Classics, Canteloupe Music, Agorà, Velut Luna, Materiali Sonori, Sensible Records, Phoenix Classics.

In September 2023 he was appointed Effective Academician of Santa Cecilia.
